Wall Township police responded to the crash at around 5:31 p.m. on Friday, July 5, the department said in a news release on Monday, July 8. It happened at the intersection of Route 34 and Hurley Pond Road near Monmouth Jet Center.

Investigators said a 25-year-old Farmingdale woman was driving a 2017 Honda CR-V on Route 34 North. The SUV crossed the grass median and struck a southbound 2014 Nissan Rogue.

The Honda driver wasn't wearing her seatbelt during the crash, according to police. Glendola firefighters had to extricate her from the SUV after she was trapped on the passenger side's floor.

The 60-year-old Hazlet woman who drove the Nissan also had to be extricated from her SUV. Both drivers and a 61-year-old Hazlet man in the Nissan were brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with moderate injuries.

Police also said officers smelled an odor of alcoholic beverages on the Honda driver. Charges were pending the results of a toxicology report.

The road was closed for about 90 minutes as crews responded to the scene.

The crash investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about it should call the Wall Township Police Department at 732-449-4500, ext. 1217.
